3.2 Transitions

Gestures, like connected speech, occur sequentially without intervening pauses. This means that ``transitional phases'' or ``transpositions,'' as Haviland (1996) calls them, connect individual gestures. These transitions are gestures with delimitative function, and when they do not convey any meaning on their own, they will not be further specified in the annotation process.
