Gestures, like connected speech, occur sequentially without
intervening pauses. This means that ``transitional phases'' or
``transpositions,'' as Haviland (1996) calls them, connect
individual gestures. These transitions are
gestures with delimitative function, and when they do not convey any meaning on their own,
they will not be further specified in the annotation process.
