JWAL provides a forum for dissemination of information on research work
going on in the field of West African languages and it also serves as a
permanent link between members of WALS. Started in 1964 by the West African
Languages Survey, the Journal was first published by Cambridge University
Press up to Vol. VIII and was then taken over by the Society from Vol. IX.
Editing and production were initially undertaken at the University of Ibadan,
but owing to infrastructural problems experienced at the University of Ibadan
Press, production was later transferred to the Summer Institute of
Linguistics, Dallas Texas, beginning with Vol. XII.
JWAL is published in volumes of two issues per year (May and November).
