A linguistic portfolio is intended to document the skills of a learner as an expert in the application of language to the solution of professional problems. The linguistic portfolio includes a language portfolio, but goes beyond it in adding analytic metalinguistic skills to the basic skills of using a language.
Analytic metalinguistic skills include the ability to analyse pronunciation, to create a dictionary of words and idioms, to write a basic grammar and analyse texts on the basis of this grammar, and to describe the use of language in both ritual and creative text and dialogue.
Each linguistics class is designed to contribute towards one part of the the linguistic portfolio.
