The lexicon

Once the semantic profiles of words have been designed, the question of how to systematise these profiles arises, in other words, how to integrate them into a dictionary.

So .. what is a dictionary?

• Functionality of dictionaries:
  • semasiological
  • onomasiological
  • bilingual
  • ...
• Design of dictionaries:
  1. macrostructure
  2. mesostructure
  3. microstructure: typically a table for semasiological, a tree structure for onomasiological microstructures.
• Production of a dictionary (lexicography) - not the topic of this class.
