Points for discussion and self-evaluation

Using a web search engine, find information which will help you to solve the following problems. Do not hesitate to discuss search strategies among yourselves and with me:

  1. Define the following terms:
    1. lexical object
    2. lexical information
    3. word
    4. idiom
    5. lexical entry
    6. lemma
    7. headword
    8. homonym
    9. microstructure
    10. macrostructure
    11. part of speech
  2. Search the web to find other sources of information about
    1. lexicography
    2. terminology
    3. termbanks
    4. lexicography
    5. lexicalism
  3. Find a short English text on the web, copy it to an editor program, extract its vocabulary, and make
    1. a small conventional dictionary for it,
    2. a bilingual English-German dictionary for it.
  4. Characterise a thesaurus, and make a small thesaurus with the text you used for the dictionary.

Not all these points can be covered in today's class, but we will come back to them later.
