Labelling or signal annotation is the assignment of symbolic labels (orthographic, phonemic, phonetic, or prosodic) to segments of the speech signal, and may be performed automatically, semi-automatically or manually. In operational terms, labelling is a function from a symbols in a transcription to temporal segments of a speech signal.
