The following enhanced template
for a German monosyllable is proposed in Kohler (1977:178):

- This goes further than the generalisation in terms of consonants and
vowels in that the consonants (C) are divided into classes:
- C
- plosives and fricatives,
- C
- nasals, the lateral and //
- C
containing /h/.
- Enhanced templates are not restrictive enough in that, despite
these constraints, they also overgeneralise.
- Additional constraints as to which members of a particular class
are excluded in certain positions are often provided
as text in statements to the effect that all consonants of the classes
C
and C
can occur prevocalically except //
(cf. for example, Kohler, 1977:179).
