Types of multilingual hypertext - examples

Goal

The goal of this meeting is to establish a basic corpus of multilingual hypertexts of different types, which we will classify and analyse as a preliminary step to designing and producing texts.

`Metadata': documentation of hypertexts

The hypertexts in the basic corpus need to be identified with some basic information of the following kinds:

  1. Document title:
  2. Address (URL):
  3. Date when found:
  4. Identity (author, institution):
  5. Summary:
  6. Sample:

Collection and archiving procedure

  1. Make a directory with the name `MLHT_CORPUS_n' (where `n' is the number of your desk).
  2. Start a MS-Word document with the title "MLHT_METADATA_n" (again where `n' is the number of your desk)
  3. Structure your MS-Word document hierarchically with the Styles (Formatvorlagen) `Title', `Header1', `Header2', etc.)
  4. Format each Style according to your personal taste.
  5. Search for documents on `multilingual hypertexts' on the web.
  6. Document them according to the procedure described above, including a `live link' to the document concerned.
  7. At the end of the session, save your document in a file named "MLHT_METADATA_n" in your Home directory.
  8. When the document is finished, copy it to the "Hilfsverzeichnis", to the subdirectory for this class.

After this,

  1. I will put your documents into a single document,
  2. we will discuss the collection, and
  3. in the next class develop a typology of multilingual hypertexts according to the four kinds of criterion discussed in Section gif.
