Participation and qualifications

Participation:

A condition of participation is that all participants will produce either oral or written reports, or both.

The written reports will be submitted as structured documents in WORD *.doc format for conversion into WWW hypertexts.

Note: A structured document is one which uses the available styles and text objects such as headings, lists, tables, dot lists and enumerations (not `text hacking' with tabs, highlights, font sizes, and special characters to creat lookalikes of these text objects).

Qualification:

Term papers must fulfil the following criteria:

• Structure of paper:
  1. Introduction: brief description of problem, methods, data, overview over presentation of paper
  2. State of the art: critical survey of relevant literature
  3. Method: description of scenario, recording, characterisation
  4. Linguistic characterisation: construction of lexicon, description of main points of grammar, semantics, speech acts, turn structure.
  5. Strategy: systematic account of exchange patterns, action schemata etc.
  6. Conclusion: brief summary, statement of results, open issues, applications
• Appendices:
  1. Data: cassette and transcription of high quality DAT recording (maximum 5 minutes)
  2. Lexicon: list of all words in the dialogue transcription, with definitions and description of special features of vocabulary
• Recording: high quality digital recording (about 5 minutes)
