- Select a general model. A constitutive factor model, augmented by a speech act model would be a good candidate.
- Select a specific model. Starting with the general model, constitutive factors are specified in detail for development and evaluation.
- Select a formalism. The `formalism' might be HTML, LaTeX, DATR, or a word processing or desktop publishing environment.
- Formulating the theory. A syntax for formulating the model is specified at ID, QLP and CM levels. At the final stage, the theory is translated automatically or manually into the HTML hypertext structure.
- Evaluating the theory relative to the model. The result is checked with the model specifications, at a formal level and in terms of subjective assessment of the result. Constitutive factors, felicity conditions, and maxims each play a role.
