4 Units of measurement

The signals operated on by signal processing systems are varied, and have a wide range of properties, each of which is related to the three main dimensions according to which an ideal simple signal is defined: amplitude, frequency, and phase. The main kinds of system and signal have already been introduced in the preceding chapters. This chapter introduces in more detail the most important basic signal type, and the quantities needed for detailed calculation of signals, and for the recognition of signals.
