Practical tasks

  1. Find the Praat application on your computer.
  2. Select a short sound file in WAV format, and put it into your Audio folder.
  3. Start Praat, and note the two windows: the left-hand one is for "Praat objects" and the methods which can be applied to them; the right-hand one is just for saving graphics for use in other documents, not for working with.
  4. Load (read) the sound file into Praat; it is now a "Praat object", listed in the object list.
  5. Note the "Praat methods" for this object, listed on the right of the object list.
  6. Examine the sound object with the "Edit" method.
  7. Copy a graphical version of the picture with the "Draw / Paint" method.
  8. Save the picture as a WMF graphics file.
  9. Close Praat.
  10. Open MS-Word, and create a new document.
  11. Using the "Insert / Graphics" menu, load your picture into the Word document.
  12. Write two paragraphs describing how you did all this - don't just copy thie web page...
