Introduction

Objective: To collect easily accessible sources of information about Welsh as a basic resource, to gain a first impression of the language, and to clarify what is meant by ``documentation''.

Tasks:

1. Find out - without asking your neighbour - what is "Welsh" in Welsh.
2. Using the Welsh word for "Welsh", search with Google for information, collecting your results in a systematically formatted MS-Word or OpenOffice document.
3. List:
   • Welsh dictionaries.
   • Welsh grammars.
   • Welsh phrase-books.
   • Media as sources of Welsh.
4. Translate into Welsh and transcribe your translation phonemically (IPA or SAMPA):
   • "Good afternoon."
   • "How do you do?"
5. Translate and transcribe phonemically (IPA or SAMPA) the following Welsh expressions:
   • Diolch yn fawr.
   • Croeso i Gymru.
   • Pob hwyl.
