Nouns and noun phrases

Important points:

1. Word order in NPs:
   • NP Determiner Noun AP
   • AP Adjective (AdvDeg)
   • Example: y bachgen bach iawn
   Note that in some Welsh grammars Determiners are - oddly - classified as adjectives (this makes it necessary to provide an ad hoc explanation of why they do not mutate).
2. Determiners: definite (y, yr, , 'r, quantifiers, but no indefinite article.
3. Gender: masculine, feminine; agreement mutation between nouns and adjectives.
4. Number: singular and plural - note the different declensions.
