Organisation (abstract architecture) of a lexicon

The basic document structure for the kind of lexicon we are concerned with here takes the form of a table.

An entry in the lexicon corresponds to a row in the table, and a lexical property (type of lexical information) corresponds to a column in the table.

There are other models, in particular hierarchical arrangements of different kinds, but we will not be concerned with those in the present context.
