Frames

A completely different kind of layout component is available in HTML for organising the layout of a document which contains more than one page: the frame.

Because most browsers do not support a notion of document which goes beyond the notion of page, it is usually not advisable to use frames for documents whose individual pages need to be referred to, since the browser in general only "sees" one page of a frame set at a time, usually just the start page. However, for presentations with fixed styles - e.g. advertising, art exhibitions, etc. - frames are a very useful document oriented layout device.

Task:

  1. Check the web for definitions of "frame" in the context of hypertexts.
  2. Find examples.
  3. Construct a document with three files: one containing two frameset definitions, one each for the other two files, and the other two files with content for each of the frames.
