1. 13 April 2000 Introduction: Mainly organisational aspects, timetable, allocation of tasks.
   TASK: Look for morphology classes worldwide on the Web, note their URLs and prepare notes for discussion next week.
2. 20 April 2000 Morphology:
   • words, their structure, forms and meanings;
   • relation of morphology to the rest of language: phonology, syntax, semantics;
   • division into inflection, and word formation (compounding, derivation)
3. 27 April 2000
   • paradigmatic information: words in the dictionary:
     • the dictionary table / array / matrix
     • macrostructure and microstructures of dictionaries
   • syntagmatic information: `the syntax of words': phrase structure and finite state morphology
   • terminology: roots, stems, simplex and complex words, idioms ...

9. 15 June 2000 The integrative Lexicon: Word formation, linguistic models and the lexicon: How can word formation be integrated systematically into the lexicon? How can complex words be described in an interesting way as signs? Practical work: collation of complex words and formulation of dictionary entries for simple words.
10. 29 June 2000 Building a dictionary: generalisation hierarchies and word classes, `inheritance' of properties; In other words: how to combine efficiency, generality and compactness in describing word formation in the dictionary.
11. 6 July 2000 Building a dictionary: structures: How to formulate principles for constructing compound words in the dictionary.
12. 13 July 2000 Finalising the compound word dictionary project.

Project work and reports: The project tasks will consist of selecting a topic area, building a vocabulary of complex words from texts (e.g. on the web) in this area, and building an integrative lexicon for these words.
